The SPM-3 has a combat weight of 12,800 kg, a length of 6,140 mm, a width of 2,500 mm, a height of 2,700 mm, a clearance of 500 mm, a maximum road speed of 100 km/h, and an operational range of 1,000 km. It is powered by a single YaMZ-536 (315 h.p.) multifuel diesel engine that provides a power-to-weight ratio of 25 h.p./t.

The SPM-3 features aLevel 3 (K) STANAG 4569 [all-round protection against 7.62 mm hard steel or tungsten alloy armour-piercing bullets at a 30 m distance] ballistic protection and a Level 2a (M) STANAG 4569 [6 kg (explosive mass) anti-tank mine activate under any wheel location] counter-mine one.

The V-type hull significantly increases the survivability of the vehicle on the battlefield. The SPM-3 has a crew of two servicemen and can transport up to nine soldiers.

It carries no armament in basic configuration but can be equipped with an RCWS, anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM), or an automatic grenade launcher (AGL).
