Azerbaijan intends to purchase weapons and military equipment from South Korea.
Azerbaijan intends to purchase a slew of weaponry from South Korea, according to a source in the South Korean parliament, Hankook Ilbo publications reports. According to the source, the intention to purchase modern military weaponry was expressed during the visit of a South Korean parliamentary delegation to Azerbaijan.
     
     

The Azeri leadership has expressed its wish to purchase submarine boats, mine vessels, transport ships, T-50 training planes, K-9 self-propelled artillery vehicles, and drones worth $3 billion from South Korea.

The K9 Thunder is a local South Korean self-propelled 155 mm howitzer developed by Samsung Techwin.

In Augsut 2013, Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev has received the Vice Defense Minister of South Korea, Baek Seung-joo. During this meeting, Abiyev said that the relationship between Azerbaijan and the Republic of Korea is especially strengthened in recent years, and this process has covered all spheres.

Azerbaijani Defense Minister especially noted that the fastest entry into force of this memorandum will facilitate the development of military cooperation between two states. The issues of bilateral relations in the sphere of military education were also discussed during the meeting.
