New automated monitoring system based on GLONASS has been used by Russian armed forces for the first time during the allover supply exercise, which was held in 6 districts. GLONASS or "GLObal NAvigation Satellite System", is a space-based satellite navigation system operated by the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces. New automated monitoring system lays route for the vehicle columns and provides communications between drivers and opportunity to analyze the time on route.

GLONASS provides an alternative to Global Positioning System (GPS) and is the second alternative navigational system in operation with global coverage and of comparable precision.

The system is designed to operate at temperatures from -40 to +55 degrees Celsius. The system lays routes for the vehicle columns, provides communications between drivers and opportunity to analyze the time on route.

All combined-arms and special vehicles are equipped with transmitters, which are designed to work more than 30,000 hours.

The special complex exercise is held in 6 districts of the Russian Federation. Six thousand servicemen and up to 750,000 pieces of military hardware are involved in the event. This is the preparation stage for the command-and-staff strategic exercise Center-2015.
