Russian artillery units in the North Caucasus are learning to operate Aistyonok radar
Rocket, missile and tube artillery units of the Russian Southern Military District’s all-arms army based in the North Caucasus have started learning to operate the advanced Aistyonok man-portable radar, the district’s press office said.

"The system can calculate the trajectory of 81-120mm mortar bombs and their firing and impact points. The system can be also used to adjust the fire of 122-152mm guns. Operating in this mode, the radar registers shell bursts and locates hostile artillery units to adjust the fire for successful target engagement," the press office said.

The system can also detect moving ground targets at a distance of up to 20 kilometers (12.4 miles), which allows delivering preemptive strikes against the enemy. Information on the radar’s operating modes, marks, the trajectory of acquired targets, etc., is shown on the control console’s color display. The system includes a radio station to transmit data on targets. The Aistyonok man-portable system has modular design. It can be also carried by any vehicle. The system weighs 135 kilograms.
