Armament
The EE-11 Urutu APC is fitted with a one-man turret mounted at the center of the hull armed with a 7.62 mm or 12.7mm machine gun. Some variants can be equipped with a one-man turret armed with a 20mm Oerlikon Contraves cannon and a 7.62 mm machine gun or a two-man turret armed with a 25 mm Oerlikon Contraves cannon and a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun.is mounted at the front of the vehicle
Design and Protection
The hull of the EE-11 Urutu is made in all-welded steel armour which provides a protection against firing of small arms 5.56 mm and 7.62mm caliber and shell splinters. The layout of the vehicle is standard with the driver at the front, on the left side, with the engine compartment at its right. The troop's compartment is at the rear of the hull with ben seats on each side of the hull. There is one door on each side of the hull immediately behind the front axle and one more at the rear of the vehicle. The rear door is automatically operated by the driver. A maximum of five firing ports are available on each side of the hull. Four roof hatches are available on the top of the troop's compartment which opens towards the outside of the vehicle.
Propulsion
The latest version of the EE-11 Urutu is motorized with Detroit Diesel 6V-53T 6-cylinder water-cooled diesel developing 260 hp at 2,800 rpm coupled to an Allison automatic transmission with 4 forward and 1 reverse gears. The front suspension is independent and consists of double-wishbone arms, coil springs and double-action hydraulic shock-absorbers. The front wheels are driven by hypoid angular transmission and bevel differential gears. For amphibious operations, the front and rear axles can be pressurized. The rear suspension consists of semi-elliptical springs and double-action telescopic shock-absorbers. The EE-11 Urutu can run at a maximum road speed of 105 km/h with a maximum road range of 850 km. The vehicle is able to negotiate gradient up to 60% and side slope up to 30%. The EE-11 Urutu can climb a vertical obstacle of a maximum of 0.6m.
Accessories
The EE-11 Urutu is fully amphibious and propelled in the water at a maximum speed of 8 km/h by two propellers with kort-nozzles and is steered by two rudders at the rear of the hull, which are connected to the steering wheel. Before entering the water, a trim vane is erected pneumatically at the front of the hull by the driver. An air compressor integrated to the engine feeds three air reservoirs and all operating systems and accessories; brakes, transfer case, gear shifting, tyre inflation, rear door and amphibious elements. The Urutu is also equipped with disc brakes and an automatic tyre inflation system. In option, the EE-11 Urutu can be fitted with an NBC protection system, night vision equipment and a winch with a capacity of 5,000 kg.
