Ukroboronprom from Ukraine launches new modernized BMP-2 IFV named BMP-1UMD.
The Ukrainian State Company Ukroboronprom has launched a new modernized version of the Soviet-made IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) BMP-2, called BMP-1UMD "Myslyvets", Hunter. The vehicle is fitted with a new power pack and a new turret. The BMP-1UMD was unveiled in October 2016 during the “Arms and Security”, defense exhibition in Kiev, Ukraine.

The new BMP-1UMD is motorized with a 4-stroke, 6-cylinder turbo-supercharged engine Deutz TCD2013 L64V with electronic control unit developing 330 hp. The previous version of the Soviet-made BMP-2 IFV was motorized with a Model UTD-20 6-cylinder, 4-stroke direct injection diesel developing only 300 hp.
 

The BMP-1UMD Hunter is fitted with the Stilet unmanned turret which is armed with a ZTM-2 (2A42) 30mm automatic cannon, one AGS-1730mm automatic grenade launcher, one 7.62mm coaxial machine gun and two launchers for anti-tank guided missile Barrier mounted to the right side of the turret.

The BMP-1UMD is fitted with an advanced digital fire control system designed by the Ukrainian Company ”Zhytomyr Armored Plant”. This system can automatically detect and track targets offering the advantage to use the vehicle as an autonomous remote controlled unit.

The layout of the BMP-1UMD is very similar to the original BMP-2 with the driver sits at the front of the vehicle on the left side and the commander sits to the rear of the driver. The Stilet unmanned turret is mounted in the center of the hull. The troops compartment is at the rear of the hull which can accommodate 8 infantrymen.

Each side of the is fitted with add-on armour to increase protection of the troops compartment while keeping the original firing ports of standard Soviet-made BMP-2.

The new BMP-1UMD has been recently tested in Ukraine including firing tests in cold climatic conditions.
