French U.N. peacekeepers in an armoured personnel carrier patrol a street next to the area where a U.N. peacekeeper died in a de-mining accident, in Shamaa village near Tyre city, southern Lebanon, July 25, 2007. Lebanese security sources said the dead soldier was French. However, United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) deputy spokesperson Yasmina Bouziane could not confirm the nationality of the soldier.

The Bhana is one of the most important military event to Czech Republic. The Army Recognition team was there, and of course as every year, it was a great military show. During this event we have see most of the equipmeny use by the Czech Army force but also modern armoured vehicles of Austria and Germany. There is two static area, one with old vehicles of Czech Army, as OT-64, BRDM and more and the other with all the military vehicles in use today. Small business qualifier Force Protection Industries, Inc. in Ladson, SC has received a $221.7 million firm-fixed-priced delivery order #0004 under previously awarded contract (M67854-07-D-5031) for additional 395 Cougar 4×4 Category I MRUV patrol vehicles, and 60 Cougar 6×6 Category II JERRV squad vehicles under Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) contracts for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles. This order brings their total awards under the MRAP program to 1,780: 760 CAT I vehicles and 1,020 CAT II, to make up 48% of the vehicles ordered so far from the 9 (now 7) competitors.

The VBCI (Véhicule Blindé de Combat d'Infanterie) armoured infantry fighting vehicle, has just been selected by the British Ministry of Defence to undergo a series of trials as part of the FRES (Future Rapid Effect System) programme intended to equip the British armed forces with a new medium-weight armoured vehicle. Let’s mention that 7 contenders were in the contest and that the British authorities selected 3 vehicles: the Boxer from Artec, the Piranha from General Dynamics and the VBCI from Nexter. Following this first step, Nexter will continue and intensify its efforts to work with the British industry, at all levels, as part of this program.
The VBCI was ordered by the French Army to equip the Army’s infantry regiments. The contract covers 700 vehicles available in two versions: infantry fighting vehicle and command post. The series production is already initiated with deliveries of the first production vehicles scheduled for 2008.
The VBCI was designed to meet the new threats facing the armed forces. Its protection level widely outclasses that of all current 8x8 vehicles and remains upgradeable. Its outstanding tactical mobility (from Renault Trucks Defense) relies on excellent crossing, acceleration and manoeuvring capabilities. Its road range of 750 km, its speed greater than 100 km/h and its air transportability provide it with significant strategic mobility. With its open electronic architecture and its internal volume of more than 13m3, the VBCI can be quickly configured into several versions or variants to meet the specific requirements of the British armed forces. .

Britain is part of the general push by western countries to field heavier, mine-protected vehicles, via orders for the Mastiff Cougar variant and the forthcoming MPPV program. UK forces are also fielding vehicles like the Land Rover WMIK (Weapons Mounted Installation Kit) that have a very different concept: firepower and visibility over protection. The vehicles, derived from Cougars used by the American Marines, are six-wheeled mine-protected vehicles which have had around 50 modifications. As well as carrying infantry troops around danger zones with much more protection, they are also used by Royal Engineers and Bomb Disposal Teams

Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) has received an order from Bundesamt für Wehrtechnik und Beschaffung (BWB) (Federal Office for Defence Technology and Procurement) to deliver an innovative, highly protected vehicle. The vehicle designated “GRIZZLY” affords its crew optimum protection, especially against explosive devices, mines and direct fire. The innovative concept fully meets the schedule of requirements of the German Army, and the increasing needs of NATO and UN forces for peacekeeping missions worldwide as well.
The “GRIZZLY” is to be tested as part of the current procurement project of the German Army covering Class 4 protected command and role-specific vehicles in (highly protected vehicles) with a gross vehicle weight of 25 tons. It thus closes an existing gap in the German Army´s vehicle programme between the DINGO 2 (12.5 tons) and the 33-ton BOXER. The first vehicle will be delivered as early as November 2007.

Six Canadian soldiers were killed in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday when their armored vehicle hit a roadside bomb, the Canadian government said, in what was the deadliest attack on NATO forces this month in the country.
