Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Russian army will have lost more than 1,500 main battle tanks, but the Russian defense industry continues to produce and deliver armored vehicles and tanks despite the international economic sanctions against Russia.

Citing information from the Ukrainian intelligence services, Russia increases the production of military equipment. On December 23, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin requests the Russian defense industry to produce quickly more military equipment and combat vehicles according to the needs of Russian forces deployed in Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was also in Tula to visit the Shcheglovsky Val arms manufacturer. This company produces Pantsir-S and Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile gun systems and also target locators and multipurpose radars of the systems, Bakhcha and Berezhok combat modules, Kornet-EM antitank rocket systems mounted on Tiger vehicles, and combat modules of the seaborne Pantsir-M antiaircraft missile gun.

The Russian company Uralvagonzavod, the main producer of main battle tanks in Russia, announced that in 2022, Uralvagonzavod delivered more advanced T-90M Proryv tanks than the previous version of the T-90 tank.

In December 2022, another video was released on Social Networks showing new T-72B3 Model 2022 MBTs carried by train to be delivered to the Russian armed forces.

With the significant tank losses in Ukraine, the Russian Defense Industry is showing its ability to produce more tanks and continues to deliver the latest generation of tanks including the T-90M and the T-72B3 Model 2022.

The T-90M Proryv is a new generation of MBT (Main Battle Tank) in the Russian-made T-90 family. According to the manufacturer, it is a completely new tank with more firepower, mobility, and protection. It is fitted with a new turret and a more powerful engine.

The T-90M is armed with 125mm cannon that can fire standard ammunition and anti-tank guided missiles using the main gun. It can destroy modern tanks with ERA (Explosive Reactive Armor) at a maximum firing range of 5 km.

The T-72B3 Model 2022 is an improved version of the T-72B3 with more protection including ERA armor around the turret. The lower part of the turret is now fitted with an RPG metal net offering more protection against Rocket-Propelled Grenades charges which is also mounted on the T-90M tank.

The T-72B3 Model 2022 keeps the main armament of the original T-72B3 consisting of a 2A46M5 125-mm smoothbore gun able to fire a wide range of 125mm ammunition including APDS (Armor-Piercing Discarding Sabot), HEF (High-Explosive Fragmentation), HEAT (High-Explosive Anti-Tank), and GM. The cannon can also fire the 9M119 Refleks (NATO designation AT-11 Sniper) anti-tank guided missile system with a range from 100 to 4,000 m.
