ST Kinetics' new Terrex 2 8x8 wheeled armoured vehicle makes its public debut at DSEI 2015
At DSEI 2015, Singapore Technologies Kinetics (ST Kinetics), the land systems division of ST Engineering, is disclosing a new family of advanced 30-tonne wheeled armoured platforms: the Terrex 2. The Terrex 2 is a cutting-edge 8x8 wheeled armoured vehicle with superior mobility, protection and network centricity that enhances the capabilities of global armed forces to fight as a mobile, networked force.

Terrex 2 has superior mobility, is nimble in littoral operations, manoeuvrable in challenging terrain and agile in urban operations. The vehicle is actually performing sea trials, and its particular hydrodynamic hull design could allow him to achieve swimming speeds of up to 11 km/h in high water conditions.

The Terrex’s class-leading design allows it to be equally lethal and highly survivable in both land and littoral missions. This brand new armoured vehicle features a unique first-in-class V-Over-V design allowing strong protection against mine and IED blasts. This design comprises two V-shaped hull sections: a lower section mounted over the drivetrain and suspension system, and a upper one which protects crew and troop compartments.

The Terrex 2 is about 8 m long, 3.6m wide and has a height less than 3 meters. The vehicle has a maximum payload of up to 9,000 kg and can carry up to 14 soldiers (2 crew and 12 troops).

This new armoured platform is powered by a six-cylinder Caterpillar C9.3 diesel engine generating 525HP (Euro Spec) or 600HP, coupled to a Allison 4500SP six-speed wide ratio automatic gearbox. The Terrex 2 is said to reach speeds up to 90 km/h on road.

As other vehicles of the same class, armament options of the Terrex 2 include roof-mounted remote weapon station armed with a 12.7 mm heavy machinegun or a co-axial 7.62 mm machine gun, as well as a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher. Heavier armament is also available, such as 30 mm automatic cannon.

Terrex 2 is proposed in four main variants: trooper (APC), command post, engineer, and ambulance.
