Rohde & Schwarz has showcased its solution to defend against radio-controlled unmanned air systems. Anyone can easily find such systems in the commercial market. That also means that those who would have an interest in violating a secure area would be able to do so in a simple and efficient way.

Rohde & Schwarz has tackled this major issue with the development of the ARDRONIS system. The system will enable authorized law enforcement agencies to identify drone control signals, locate them and neutralize the drone in a timely manner.

ARDRONIS monitors signal transmission at distances of up to 1 km, in the 2.4-5.8 GHz ISM band or other bands used by drones’ remote controllers, such as the 433 MHz or 4.3 GHz bands. These signals are identified and classified according to the system’s library, which includes a list of drone controllers.

ARDRONIS can be equipped with a direction finding module that locates the area of the person with the remote control. Similarly, if a video downlink is transmitting, it will be located too, with all the related information being displayed on a digital map.

Finally, the user has the option to jam the radio signal and interrupt the operation of the drone, without affecting other signals in the environment.
