Chinese-made KS-1 / HQ-12 air defense system in service with Thailand Armed Forces.
According pictures released on Internet, Thailand has take delivery of Chinese-made air defense missile system KS-1SM. Thailand armed forces have received a battery of KS-1C including three ou four launcher vehicles.

In September 2016, it was published that Thailand has finalized a contract with China for the purchase of anti-aircraft air defense system KS-1 also called HQ-12 for the export version. Thailand is now the third country, that is equipped with the KS-1, after Myanmar and Turkmenistan.

The KS-1 is surface-to air missile which was developed in the 1980s to replace the HQ-61 SAM (Surface-to-Air Missile) system. It was first tested in 1989 and final trials were completed in 1994.

The HQ-12 uses a solid propellant, dual-mounted missile detachment weight 886 kg, able to destroy air targets flying targets at 0.5 to 25 km altitude, horizontal range of 7 to 42 km (KS-1A type up to 50 km), the maximum flight speed of 1200 m / sec.

The launcher vehicle of the KS-1A is based on a 6x6 military truck chassis with a two-rail missile launcher station located at the rear of the truck.
