First Renault Trucks Defense PLFS Special Forces Heavy Vehicles into service with French army.
The French Company Renault Trucks Defense has delivered the first PLFS (Poids Lourd Forces Spéciales - Special Forces Heavy Weight) vehicles for the Special Forces of the French army as an urgent requirement. A first batch of 25 PLFS vehicles were delivered on February 1, 2017.

Special forces unit of French army received four vehicles, and 1st Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment paratroopers received a same quantity of PLFS, according the defense blog Le Mamouth.
 
The DGA (French army procurement agency) has certified the vehicle on January 30, 2017 to provide a new generation of combat vehicle especially dedicated to perform overseas operations and replace old vehicle in service with the French Special Forces units as the Acmat VLRA and the VPS Panhard.
 

The French army has ordered a total of 202 PLFS (special forces heavy weight) vehicles in December 2015. A total of 241 light version vehicles for Special Forces were also ordered.

The PLFS is based on the chassis of the Sherpa Light also manufactured by Renault Truck Defense. The PLFS is more lighter than the standard Sherpa and the crew compartment has been adapted to carried armament used by the French Special Forces including 12.7mm heavy machine gun, 7.62mm machine gun, anti-tank missiles AT4CS or Milan.

The PLFS is motorized with a more powerful engine developing 265 hp. It has also wider tires to improve all-terrain capabilities.
