Excalibur International Cantas A (Advanced) UAV VTOL at IDET the International Defence and Security Technologies Fair in Brno, Czech Republic.

The CANTAS A (Advanced) combines simplicity, efficiency and flexibility through an optimized power plant which includes two electric motors and a jet engine. The combination of two kinds of power units allows both the vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) and the high horizontal speed. Thanks to an innovative on-board software, CANTAS is able to execute a fully autonomous flight or it can be manually controlled through a ground control station.

The CANTAS A can carry a payload of 10 kg and together with the vertical take-off and loading capability, it makes this UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) ideal for transport missins. A payload is placed in a capsule which can be optionally adjusted according to requirements.

The CANTAS-A is powered by a PBS TJ40-G1 jet main engine, aspirated by a low-drag intake on the top of the fuselage and giving it a top speed of 380km/h. It has an operational altitude of 3,000 m (9,800 ft), a wingspan of 3.283 m, an height of 1.5 m and a length of 2.40 m.

Excalibur International Cantas E (Endurance) UAV VTOL at IDET the International Defence and Security Technologies Fair in Brno, Czech Republic.

The CANTAS E is designed with the purpose of reaching the best endurance characteristics. This member of the CANTAS family is equipped with two electric motors in a combination with an internal combustion engine. Such combination allows the CANTAS E to fly 18 hours in an economy mode while a high power engine mode provides the ability of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL). Thanks to an innovative on-board software, CANTAS E is able to execute a fully autonomous flight or it can be manually controlled through a ground control station. With the maximum payload weight of 10 kg (22 lbs), various types of sensor systems and associated recording devices can be installed.

Beth the unique flight characteristics of CANTAS E and the right combination of an additional payload iake our UAV ideal for borders patrolling, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. For example equipping with high-definition day and night cameras allows to monitor vast areas of borderland and track people and vehicles from 500 to 3,000 m (1 640 ft - 9 840 ft) above the ground. A laser rangefinder helps to determine the distance of the objects and a laser pointer can illuminate a point of interest.

The autonomous flight mode and the advanced software features (mission planning, on-line re-planning and virtual fence) allow to execute a whole task without a constant supervision of an operator. Thanks to its 18 h flight endurance capability, the CANTAS E can continuously monitor vast areas, such as fields and forests. The CANTAS E can serve as a monitoring tool in various sectors.
