Description
The Green Pine Radar Systems, ELM-2080 and ELM-2080S, are a family of transportable, ground-based active electronically scanned array (AESA) solid state radar systems, designed to autonomously detect and simultaneously track dozens of Tactical Ballistic Missiles (TBMs) from long ranges, under all weather conditions and in the presence of undesired signals. The Green Pine is used as the warning and fire control radar (FCR) of Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 anti-ballistic air defense missile systems. Operational in the Israel Air Force as part of the Arrow Weapon System, Green Pine Radar Systems enhance the country’s air defense and early-warning capabilities. The addition of Green Pine radars improves the performance of any ballistic missile defense System. An advanced version of the Green Pine radar, called "Super Green Pine" is to take the place of the original Green Pine. The Super Green Pine extends detection range to about 800–900 km.

Radar
The modular Active Electronically Steering Array (AESA) technology implemented in the Green Pine or ELM-2080 radar includes thousands of transmit/receive modules that provide high redundancy, graceful degradation, high reliability and high availability. The original ELM-2080 Green Pine Radar and its more advanced successor, the ELM-2080S Super Green Pine Radar, use a similar deployment infrastructure as well as a similar integrated logistic support. In combat position six hydraulic jacks are lowered to the ground, three on each side of the trailer.
Mobility
The Green Pine or ELM-2080 is mounted on a two axles trailer which is towed by a military truck.
Combat use
The Green Pine radar or ELM-280 operates at L band in the range 500 MHz to 1,000 MHz, or 1,000 MHz to 2,000 MHz. It works in search, detection, tracking, and missile guidance modes simultaneously. It is capable of detecting targets at ranges of up to about 500 km (310 mi) and is able to track more than 30 targets at speeds over 3,000 m/s. The radar illuminates the target and guides the Arrow missile to within 4 m of the target.
