The first Chinese army peacekeeping force in Mali is now fully operational.
Major General Jean Bosco Kazura, commander of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), inspected the first Chinese peacekeeping force to Mali which was deployed in place at 10:00 on January 22, 2014, local time, and spoke highly of the Chinese peacekeepers’ outstanding performance and professional competence.

According to a UN resolution, China dispatched the first peacekeeping force to Mali at the end of 2013, and the force including a guard detachment, an engineer detachment and a medical detachment totaling 395 is deployed in Gao of north Mali. Since its deployment, the force has completed many tasks by high standards, such as defense facility construction, equipment acceptance and maintenance, barracks building, security guard and drill, as well as treatment of the sick and wounded, and passed the first equipment verification with the serviceability rate up to 100 percent.

Kazura came to the Chinese barracks. He gave thumbs-up to the Chinese peacekeepers for their excellent equipment. Afterwards, he inspected a watchtower and saw well-trained guards as well as infrared, white light and radar monitoring equipment, saying that “Good!”

In the living quarters, Kazura was satisfied with neat tents and perfect living facilities. After the inspection, he wrote in the visitors’ book: You’re the pride of the Chinese military, you’re highly capable and disciplined, and you’re the best of the best. I’m convinced that you’re well qualified for peacekeeping operations.
