Viasat Inc., a global communications company, announced today it was awarded an IDIQ contract with an initial ceiling of $350M for advanced equipment, systems, services and support to significantly modernize ground/air situational awareness, tactical data links, terrestrial networking, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), tactical satellite communications, information assurance, network management and cybersecurity for Special Operations Forces.

On Friday, January 12, Raytheon was awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract with a stated maximum value of $641,758,000. Under this contract, the contractor will perform ballistic missile defense system (BMDS) test related activities for multiple radar platforms that includes planning, executing, and analyzing sensor performance in BMDS flight tests and ground tests for each test event defined in the BMDS integrated master test plan.

For the first time in nearly 15 years, 7th Army Training Command's Joint Multinational Readiness Center will soon begin observing, coaching and training Soldiers using the FIM-92 Stinger Man-Portable, Air Defense Missile System during future exercises. In preparation for this, approximately 50 Observer Coach/Trainers, known as OC/Ts, attended their own training on the Stinger system at the Hohenfels Training Area, Jan. 10.

According to the Press Agency Reuters, Democratic Republic of Congo army has launched a military operations against the Ugandan rebels called "Allied Democratic Forces ADF", on Saturday, January 13, 2018, after an attack last month that killed 15 United Nations peacekeepers. The Islamist ADF is very active along the Congo-Uganda border and has responsable for many attacks agaisnt UN forces and Congolese army since the last few months.

Friday, January 12, 2018, General Dynamics European Land Systems signed a contract to deliver up to 227 PIRANHA 5 8x8 wheeled armored vehicles in six different configurations to the Romanian Armed Forces. The contract has a total value exceeding $1 billion. It is part of the Romanian Army’s plan to modernize its legacy wheeled armored vehicle fleet.

According a news of January 12, 2018, published by the online military magazine Azeri Defence, Turkmenistan has purchased QW-2 (Syanvey-2) MANPADS Man Portable Air Defense Systems. It is a third generation man-portable shoulder-launched surface-to-air missile (SAM) developed in China by CASIC (China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation) for the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and export customers.

The Yemeni Air Force and Air Defense opposed to the Arab coalition, introduced a new locally developed surface-to-air missile, according a news released on the website of the Official Yemen Press Agency SABA, January 10, 2018. The new missile would have shotdown Tornado combat aircraft of Saudi-led coalition while it was flying over Saada province and hit another enemy F-15 plane over the capital Sanaa.

On Tuesday, January 9, 2018, the PLA (Chinese People's Liberation Army) Daily released test-fire images and video footage of Chinese-made DF-11 short-range ballistic missile. China has the most active and diverse ballistic missile development program in the world, upgrading its missile power in number, types and capability.

The Russian Federation and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam have signed an agreement to collaborate on manufacturing of Russian-originated trucks and utility vehicles under license. The deal is expected to benefit from newly eased tax rules introduced by the governments of Russia and Vietnam in an effort to increase the volume of trade between the countries.

SFC Energy AG, a leading provider of hybrid power solutions to the stationary and mobile power generation markets, received a major order from the BAAINBw in December 2017, which is responsible for the procurement of all Bundeswehr material. The total order amount is EUR 3.6 million. The order represents the biggest single order in company history.

An undisclosed member of the 14-nation group that own the combat-proven Patriot Integrated Air and Missile Defense System has awarded American Company Raytheon Company a direct commercial sales contract worth more than $1.5 billion for additional capability. The contract was awarded on Jan 4, 2018.

HDT Global (HDT), a leading provider of highly engineered solutions for extreme environments across military, public and private sectors, announced today its Wheeled Offload Logistics Follower (WOLF) robotic system has been awarded a Phase II Squad Multipurpose Equipment Transport Program contract. The HDT Hunter WOLF UGV ( Unmanned Ground Vehicle ) closely matches infantry mobility and can traverse narrow trails, steep slopes and dense jungles, while carrying up to 1000 lbs. of cargo for more than 72 hours without resupply.

According a tweet released on the twitter account of the Pakistan Defence Command, January 7, 2017, the Chinese-made VT4 main battle tank (MBT) has arrived in Pakistan for trial tests by the Pakistani Army's Armoured Corps. In 2017, Pakistan has showed interest to purchase new main battle tank. The Pakistan Army intends to procure hundreds of new MBTs in the coming years.

RT LTA Systems Ltd, developer andmanufacturer of aerostat systems, has recently completed the delivery of its first Crow1 aerostat system to a European customer. Crow1 is the civil model of the well-known SkyStar 180 aerostat. The Crow1 aerostat will be used by the customer for security missions.

According a news from the Iranian press agency website FarNews, all preliminary tests of the latest Iranian-made air defense missile system Bavar (Belief) 373 have been conducted. The Bavar-373 is a mobile air defense system unveiled in August 2016, it was designed based on the Russian S-300 surface-to-air missile.

According to the annual report 2017 of Denel published on its official (admin.denel.co.za) website, the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has purchased three T5-52/45 155mm 8x8 wheeled self-propelled artillery system developed by Denel. The Company Denel is the largest manufacturer of defense equipment in South Africa and operates in the military aerospace and landward defense environment.

China has recently conducted firing test with its local-made Wing Loong II UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) in the category of MALE (Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance) armed with eight types of missiles and dozens of bombs, with a hit rate of 100 percent, the Xinhua News Agency reported, citing the State-owned aviation giant of Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).
