Two more SAMP-T ground-to-air missile systems are delivery to the French Army air Force.
 
The Direction générale de l'armement DGA (Procurement agency of French Army) in March and May handed over two additional Sol-Air de Moyenne Portée Terrestre (medium-range surface-to air systems, ground-based, or SAMP/T) systems to the French army air force, bringing the number of systems it operates to five.

SAMP-T is a theatre antimissile system designed to protect the battlefield and sensitive tactical site (such as airports and sea ports) against all current and future airborne threats, including cruise missiles, manned and unmanned aircraft and tactical ballistic missiles in the 600 km range class.

To effectively carry out these missions, SAMP-/T responds to tye latest demands both at system and sub-system levels, whilst fulfilling the need for integration into a wider architecture.

Operated by 14 soldiers, an SAMP/T system comprises:

- A fire-control module based on the Arabel radar developed by Thales Air Systems. This multifunction radar provides 360-degree coverage for surveillance, detection and target tracking with very high accuracy. The Radar is mounted on a Renault 8x4 Kerax truck.

- A ground launcher system comprising four truck-mounted vertical launchers (which can be increased to six), each launcher in turn can carry 8 Aster 30 missiles and two reloading modules which allow a quick return to readiness for new engagements. Aster 30 Block I missiles, part of the family of missiles developed by MBDA. This family comprises a basic, two-stage vertically-launched missile fitted with an original “pif-paf” pilotage device which improves conventional aerodynamic controls by adding dynamic thrust controls at the missile’s center of gravity.

- A truck-mounted engagement module, which is in charge for the the firing control and the command operations. This unit uses also a Renault 8x4 Kerax truck.
