SMPP to supply 186,000 ballistic jackets to Indian army


SM Group announced that its fully owned subsidiary, SMPP, was recently awarded a USD 100Mn contract to supply 186,000 units of body armor (models unspecified) over a period of next 3 years to the Indian Army which includes over 1.1 million armor plates.

Having already supplied the largest quantity of body armor to the Indian Air Force, and with the order from Indian Navy in process, the company has further strengthened its position as a prime supplier to the Indian Armed forces.

SMPP was awarded with the Defence Technology Award by Ministry of Defense, Government of India on 14th May, 2018 for its outstanding contribution as development partners and principle design, development and fabrication partners with DRDO for innovative technologies and integral contributions to the successful development of indigenous Bullet Proof Jackets for Indian Armed Forces.

This is the company's second National Award in Defence, the first being awarded in 1998 for Indigenisation of Combustible Cartridge Cases for Tank and Artillery ammunitions of which SM Group is a prime supplier in India.
