Artillery unit of Israeli Army will begin field tests of new Skylark 3 UAV Unmanned Aerial System.
According the newspaper website Hareetz, artillery unit of Israel Defence Forces will begin field test of the new Skylark 3 UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) manufactured by the Company Elbit Systems. This UAS was unveiled in February 2016 and was presented for the first time to the public during the Singapore Air Show 2016.

Delivering organic airborne ISTAR capabilities lo the division, brigade and battalion levels. Skylark 3 is a tactical mini UAV system (UAS) optimized for either dismounted or vehicle-based operation.

Based on the battle proven Skylark HEX - with over 30 international customers and tens of thousands of operational sorties - Skylark 3 enables performance of ongoing covert operations, providing real-time intelligence during day and night. Its effective payload weight capabilities are industry-leading in its class. Skylark 3's high resolution, gimbaled and stabilized dual EO/IR payload facilitate a wide-range of applications including intelligence, force and convoy protection, infrastructure protection, , border patrol and security operations.

The Skylark 3 is fully autonomous from take-off to landing and is designed for mission oriented operation that doesn't require any piloting skills.

The Skylark 3 is powered by an electric motor and it can fly at a maximum range of 100 km with an endurance of 6 hours. This UAV has a maximum takeoff weight of 40 kg.

The artillery units of Israeli army uses drones to perform reconnaissance and intelligence missions. It can be used to enter the combat zone and giving information just a few kilometers of the artillery units in the heart of enemy territory.
