The Lockheed Martin JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle) was developed as candidate for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle program of U.S Army and Marine Corps to replace the light tactical vehicle Humvee.

The JLTV was fully designed and developed by the American Company Lockheed Martin. For the last nine years, Lockheed Martin engineers have been designing the vehicle from the ground up—taking into consideration everything from saving fuel to connecting the fleet and countering blasts.

The JLTV was designed to be lightweight, delivering outstanding gas mileage while providing crew protection similar to a giant military armored vehicle.

The JLTV Lockheed Martin design includes a basic armor package offering standard ballistic and mine protection as well as provisions to accommodate an additional add-on armor kit. he Lockheed Martin JLTV met the protection standards for IED-protected vehicles during government blast tests conducted in October 2011. The vehicle delivers improved survivability, while weighing about 40% less than other all-terrain vehicles deployed in the field.

The Lockheed Martin JLTV is motorized with a Cummins diesel engine coupled to Allison transmission. It can run at a maximum road speed of 125 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 650 km.

The standard version of the Lockheed Martin JLTV had no specific armament configuration, but could be fitted with a 7.62 mm or 12.7 mm machine gun.

The Lockheed Martin team has developed five test vehicles for the U.S. Army JLTV program. The original JLTV Category B variant is an infantry carrier demonstrated in October 2007. Other variants include the Utility Vehicle Light Category C variant (high payload), the General Purpose Mobility Category A logistics support vehicle, second generation Infantry Carrier Category B vehicle and the Command and Control on the Move Category B vehicle.
