MSPO 2015: Lockheed Martin Partnering with Jelcz/PGZ for Polish Army HOMAR Program
At MSPO 2015 International Defence Industry Exhibition in Poland, Lockheed Martin is showcasing a conceptual model of its proposal for the Polish Army HOMAR program. The program consists in the procurement of long range artillery rocket systems (300 km) for the Polish Armed Forces.

Talking to Army Recognition, a Lockheed Martin representative explained that they have partnered with Polish company Jelcz (member of PGZ Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa) which would act as integrator. The scale model on display is a concept reprensting what is being offered for HOMAR program: A Lockheed Martin HIMARS launcher unit fitted on a Jelcz 663.32 (similar to the Kryl howitzer chassis).

HIMARS carries a single six-pack of MLRS rockets or one ATACMS missile. HIMARS is designed to launch the entire MLRS family of munitions, and so would the HOMAR:
» GMLRS – Alternate Warhead
» GMLRS – Unitary
» Reduced-Range Practice Rocket
» The future long range precision fire rocket
and all ATACMS variants.

HIMARS and its ammunition: GMLRS and ATACMS are in a class of their own with unmatched performance according to Lockheed Martin. ATACMS is the only long-range tactical surface-to-surface missile ever employed in combat by the U.S Army. More than 540 ATACMS have been fired, and the system has demonstrated extreme accuracy and reliability.

In addition to its unique range and precision, another advantage of the HIMARS system over its competitors is its impact on the logistics chain: The precision capability of the rockets allows the operator to neutralize the same target with far less ammunition: more than a 6 to 1 ratio. Such a ratio would shrink significantly the logistics chain of a user switching to HIMARS.

Finally, the Lockheed Martin representative explained that they have a plan for industrial cooperation and that Lockheed Martin is willing to support the modernization effort of the Polish industry.
