The Defense Ministry explained that the armed forces have conducted a planned training involving their control system on October 30.

A Topol ICBM blasted off from Plesetsk cosmodrome. Tu-160 strategic bombers launched cruise missiles at ground targets in the Pemboi and Kura missile ranges in Russia’s Republic of Komi and Kamchatka Peninsula respectively. An Iskander tactical missile system fired off a cruise missile on a target sitting at the Kapustin Yar missile range.

In addition, the surface and submarine forces of the Russian Navy, too, employed their sea-launched ballistic (SLBM) and cruise missiles in the course of the planned control system check.

The Project 667BDRM (Delta-IV) K-117 Bryansk nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine with the Russian Navy Northern Fleet and the Pacific Fleet’s Project 667BDR (Delta-III) K-223 Podolsk nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine launched SLBMs from the Barents and Okhotsk seas respectively. The Project 21631 Buyan-class guided missile corvette with the Caspian Flotilla launched a cruise missile of the Kalibr system at a training target.

The Defense Ministry explained that the training was focused on checking the reliability of conveying combat training orders and signals "throughout the chain of command - from the Russian Federation National Defense Control Center all the way to the command posts of units."
