The Lazar 3 is the latest version in the Lazar family of 8x8 wheeled armored IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle). The vehicle was fully designed and developed by the Serbian company Yugoimport. The Lazar 3 was unveiled in 2016 and is now in service with Serbia and Turkmenistan.

The LAZAR 3 is a modular 8x8 armored and can be configured as APC (Armored Personel Carrier), IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle), command post, ambulance, air defense missile system, anti-tank vehicle, and more.

The layout of the Lazar 3 IFV is very unique, with the driver and commander position located in the front left side of the hull with the engine on the right side. The vehicle can carry a total of 12 military personnel including commander, driver, gunner, and 9 soldiers.

The Lazar 3 has a ballistic protection Level 3 STANAG 4569 against the firing of small arms 7.62×51mm caliber AP (Amor-Piercing) at 30 meters and anti-mine protection levels 3a and 3b STANAG 4569, mine explosion pressure-activated under any wheel or track location (Level 3a), mine explosion under center (Level 3b).

The LAZAR III in IFV variant is fitted with a one-man turret armed with an M86 automatic 30mm cannon with a double-feed mechanism coupled to one 7.62mm coaxial machine gun.

At Partner 2021, Yugoimport has introduced the new Lazar III A1 version which is now fitted with a local-made Remote Weapon Station (RWS) armed with one 30mm 2A42 automatic cannon and one 7.62mm 6P7K machine gun. The 2A42 is a gas double belt feed gas-operated weapon. It is electrically powered and requires external power. The long barrel is rifled and has a double baffle muzzle brake. The 2A42 fires 30x165mm round that was specifically developed for this weapon, but several types of ammunition are also available. The 30mm cannon has a rate of fire from 550 to 800 rpm. It has an effective firing range of 1.5 km against ground targets, but can be also used against aerial targets with a maximum firing range of 4 km. Three smoke grenade dischargers are mounted on each side of the turret.

Using an unmanned weapon station, the Lazar III A1 allows the gunner to remain in the relative protection of the vehicle to perform all the firing operations. The RWS has a traverse of 360° with an elevation from -1° to +60°. For the 30mm cannon, the vehicle can carry 300 rounds including HE (High Explosive) and AP-T (Armour-Piercing Tracer) ammunition, while the machine gun has a basic load of 1,000 rounds.
