Description

To increase the protection on soldiers outside of combat vehicle, Raytheon BBN Technologies developed Boomerang Warrior-X, a soldier wearable shooter detection system. Boomerang Warrior-X provides immediate indication of hostile fire or sniper attack and localizes the shooter(s) allowing for a rapid, informed and coordinated response. Boomerang Warrior-X is the best performing, most cost-effective compact dismounted shooter detection system available worldwide.

Design
The single, shoulder-mounted sensor provides individual soldiers immediate awareness of hostile fire locations whether during sniper (single shots) or rapid-fire engagements. When integrated, Warrior-X can provide unit leaders with the shooter grid coordinates with pin-point accuracy, enhancing the situational awareness needed to effectively coordinate team responses to hostile fire.
The Boomerang Warrior-X detection system is mounted on the shoulder of the soldier so he can have both hands free. The sensor is connected by cable to a small screen that provides a range of information about enemy fire, as azimuth, range, and elevation. The shot can be detected up to a maximum distance of 500 meters. The complete system has an operating duration of 12 hours
Combat use

Weighing under 12 ounces (340 gr), the system gives individual soldiers immediate awareness of hostile fire locations and, when integrated, can also provide unit leaders with shooter grid coordinates to enhance situational awareness needed to coordinate team responses to hostile fire. Advanced shot recall technology is built into the system’s computing technology for rapid after action review or to update bearing and location to a previous shooter’s location while an individual maneuvers in an engagement area.
Incoming shot announcements are transmitted to a built-in speaker or an ear piece while a light-weight display provides range and azimuth of the shooter position. As the Soldier moves, the system compensates for the Soldier's motion and continually updates the threat's location on the wrist display.
The system works in both urban and mountainous terrain, without the need for user input. As with the Boomerang System, false alerts are non-existent. The ability to quickly and reliably identify the location of enemy firing locations provides the intelligence necessary to minimize threats and avoid human casualties.
