While creating the project specification, ASC looked the existing market and reviewed many user specifications to enable ASC to create a new interpretation of an established concept. By understanding how these vehicles are used on the ground and most crucially understanding how they are transported by air has led them to delete internal CH-47 helicopter air-transportability from their specification.

CH-47 transport certification is very demanding with Width and Height requirment, which severly limit the tactical mobility and capability of the vehicle. Disposing of those requirment, permits to work with customer who doesn't need CH-47 certification, the Hornet can still be transported inside a C-130 Hercules transport aircraft. Getting done with these requirment, allow to use wider and taller tyres to reduce ground pressure, uses of a full-size frame system who can be fitted with automatic gearbox, powerful engine with differential lockers and bigger fuel tanks. When the optional PTG tyre inflation system or high capacity compressor is fitted the tyre pressures can be quickly inflated / deflated to set pressures to further improve mobility on rough ground.

The Hornet SOV use the base of a mass-produced pick-up and have a manufacturing business model which makes acquisition, support and attractive proposition to the procurement authority.
