In a ceremony held in Tehran on Friday, June 23, 2017, the assault rifle named “Zolfaqar”, weighing 3.5 kilograms and using 7.62 mm caliber ammunition , was unveiled for the first time to the public. The operational range of the weapon is up to 400 meters with the original sight system and reaches up to 800 meters with sniper scope.

The layout of the Iranian-made Zolfaqar seems very similar to modern assault rifle as the Belgian SCAR and the German HK-416. The Zolfaqar features an integral, uninterrupted Picatinny rail on the top of the aluminum receiver. It has also a reversible charging handle and an ambidextrous safety/firing selector and magazine release.

The Zolfaqar is fitted with a side-folding buttstock which can be adjusted for length of pull, and is shaped to provide positive cheek rest with adjustable cheek support. The cocking handle and the ejection port are located on the right side.

At the front of the weapon there is also a vertical fore-grip integrated with a strong and stable bipod. A red-dot sight is mounted in the center of the top receiver.
