New BMD-4M2 uses the chassis of the BMD-4M airborne infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) fitted with the turret of BMP-3 IFV.

The airborne infantry fighting vehicle BMD-4M with Sinitsa combat module is expected to appear for the first time at the Army-2017 show to be held in Moscow region in August.

"The BMD-4M infantry fighting vehicle with Sinitsa combat module is designated to transport airborne troops, engage in combat and provide fire support to paratroopers on the ground. It can be airdropped and is amphibious. The vehicle is an upgrade of airborne assault hardware which provides maximum unification of armaments, systems and devices with BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle. It has a panoramic sight with thermal imaging channel which is lacking on the turret of BMD-4M," Deputy Designer General of the Special Machine-building Design Bureau Alexei Kozlov said.

According to the Center for Strategy and Technology Analysis, the Sinitsa R&D used BMP-3 fighting compartment on BMD-4M instead of Bakhcha-U module. The compartment got an additional sighting unit for the commander. The new combat vehicle was codenamed BMD-4M2.

The BMD-4M is the latest generation of Russian-made airborne armoured infantry fighting vehicle that can be para-dropped to provide firepower and support for airborne troops. It is an upgraded variant of the BMD-4 (BMD-3M).

The BMD-4M2 uses the same armament as the BMD-4M which consists of one 2A70 100mm caliber gun, coupled to a 30mm 2A72 cannon and a 7.62mm PKT coaxial machine gun mounted to the right of the main armament.
