BAE Systems has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop software that will enable semi-autonomous multi-domain mission planning. The technology will be designed for military operators to leverage battlespace resources from across various domains, such as space, air, land, and sea, for more effective, efficient missions.

Automatic command and control systems received a new function that was tested at Center-2019 exercise. The system analyzes the tactical situation, terrain, weather and capabilities of friendly and adversary troops. Its algorithm rapidly selects the place where the hardware is invulnerable for adversary artillery, aircraft and drones, but can deliver major damage to them, the Izvestia daily writes.

The Russian armed forces will receive a robotic system designed on the basis of the Pantsir-S antiaircraft missile gun. It will be able to automatically detect, identify and destroy targets without an operator’s interference and thus prevent risks to officers and men. The weapon will be able to operate in super low temperatures and in a contaminated environment.

The Robotics University at Fort Leonard Wood, Training Area 211, is ready to field a new robot -- the Man Transportation Robotic System Increment II (MTRS Inc II) -- to be used by the Army, Air Force, Marines and Navy for multiple purposes, including explosive ordnance disposal and detection of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear hazards. Sam Campbell reports.

A Chinese technology firm is testing a new attack drone specifically designed to help ground troops in street-level combat, in the hope that it can sell the unit abroad, reports say, Liu Zhen reports in the South China Morning Post.

4th Infantry Division soldiers recently finished the final phases of testing a new battlefield smoke-producing system to conceal units during combat at Fort Carson, Colorado. Capt. Christopher Biddie, Test Officer, U.S. Army Operational Test Command, reports.

Soon after the introduction, the APC variant of SISU GTP 4x4 participated successfully in comparative trials arranged by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Latvia, in which the SISU GTP 4x4 qualified as the winner among the international competitors. Now, the SISU GTP is even more powerful thanks to an engine and transmission update.

The Russian armed forces receive the first upgraded Zoopark Counter-battery radar systems which were modernized according to the combat engagement in Syria. The upgraded radar guarantees the detection of adversary munitions after fire, including makeshift missiles and mines. It calculates the trajectory and provides guidance for destruction. Experts believe the radars will increase the effectiveness of artillery units, the Izvestia daily writes.

Commanders of military districts and general armies will be able to accelerate decisions in a combat situation. The new system with artificial intelligence elements and Big Data technologies will analyze the situation and offer several options. The commander will see a forecast of developments and brief recommendations. The official name is the information combat control system. It has been tested in the troops since 2018 and is now operating organically, the Izvestia daily writes.

Robotization of ground forces has been of interest to the military of the world since the early last century. The development of technologies allows implementing the idea only now. Growing military budgets in the past decade caused a landslide of artificial intelligence projects and combat robots. The Izvestia writes about the current state of affairs.

U.S. Army scientists and their partners at the University of Maryland and John Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory have developed a high-energy aqueous lithium-ion battery that won't catch fire no matter how damaged it becomes. These new batteries continue to operate in conditions where traditional batteries fail. U.S. Army CCDC Army Research Laboratory Public Affairs reports.
