According to a Chinese newspaper, China has acquired 'the Ferrari of the war room software'. This software is the work of LuciadLightspee, a Belgian company from Leuven, even if the company itself denies it. Luciad is a kind of spin-off of the Belgian university KU Leuven specializing in geospatial information systems, which was bought last year by the Swedish firm Hexagon.

Ranking Department of National Defense (DND) officials and their counterparts from the Directorate General of Armaments and Materiel (DGAM) of Spain's Ministry of Defense have met to discuss a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which could serve as legal framework for the acquisition of Spanish military equipment through government-to-government deals.

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (St. Petersburg, Florida) was awarded a $14,413 firm-fixed-price contract for Army Ground Mobility Vehicles and associated kits. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Nov. 16, 2019. U.S. Army Contracting Command, Warren, Michigan, is the contracting activity.

A deputy commander of the Iranian Army said the infantry and rapid reaction units of the Army are planned to be equipped with advanced smart equipment. “Since manpower is the main asset of military organizations, it is important for us to protect it,” Rear Admiral Seyed Mahmoud Mousavi told the Tasnim News Agency. “Accordingly, the provision of individual equipment needed to help our manpower to carry out its missions in the best and safest way is on the agenda of the Army,” he added.

The Spanish Secretary of State for Defence, Ángel Olivares, the Director General of Military Equipment and Materials (DIGAM), Admiral Santiago Ramón González, and the presidents of the sectoral associations AESMIDE and TEDAE, Gerardo Sánchez Revenga and Jaime de Rábago presented last 16 November the first International Defence Fair (FEINDEF), which will be held in Madrid, from 29 to 31 May 2019.

Otokar, leading supplier of the Turkish military and security forces for wheeled tactical vehicles, promotes its Arma 8x8 modular wheeled armored vehicle in Bahrain. Otokar, a Koc Group Company recently participated in Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS).

So far, China has imported a lot of military hardware made in Russia, which is why the creation of an after-sale support center is one of the most important issues on the bilateral agenda. Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSVTS) believes that it will be economically viable to set up a maintenance center for S-300 and S-400 missile systems in China, FSVTS head Dmitry Shugaev told reporters.

The US Army will equip its M1A2 Abrams main battle tanks with Elta’s WindGuard Active Protection System, IAI announced on 13 November. Elta Systems, a division and subsidiary of IAI, was by Leonardo DRS to provide the US with the radar in addition to a contract for Rafael Trophy system which was signed with US Army last June.

As expected, the U.S. armed forces are to request an increased budget to develop lasers, microwave beams, and other directed-energy defenses to fight off missiles and drone swarms, the Pentagon’s top weapons engineer said on 13 November. “You’re going to see, in upcoming budgets for missile defense, a renewed emphasis on laser scaling [meaning scaling up the power of lasers] across several technologies,” Michael Griffin, Defense undersecretary for research and engineering, said at an event hosted by the Center for Strategic International Studies, as reported by Michael Tucker on Defense One.

The United States has given 12 Bastion Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to the Kenyan Defence Forces to help the country improve border surveillance. The APCs are set to support KDF’s efforts in the fight against extremists, including the use of Improvised Explosive Devices along the porous border between Kenya and war-torn Somalia.

The Bundeswehr has awarded Rheinmetall a major contract for tank ammunition. Encompassing 13,000 rounds of 120mm x 570 DM88 ammunition, the order is worth €21.4 million, including value added tax. Delivery begins in November 2018 and should be complete by the end of the year. The DM88 is an advanced practice round made specifically for the Leopard 2 main battle tank.

Over the weekend, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) moved their newly-delivered Gulan 1000 missile system to the Al-Safa region of Al-Sweida. The Syrian army’s 4th Armored Division began using its Gulan 1000 system against Daesh in the Al-Safa region immediately after it arrived.

The Russian army is equipping its first battalion with Tor-M2DT short-range air defense missile systems, the Russian Defense Ministry announced last 15 November. On November 19-25, 2018, the first Arctic Tor-M2DT anti-aircraft missile systems are to enter operational service in the Northern fleet (Yeysk, Krasnodar Region)," the statement reads. The hand-over ceremony will be held in the territory of the 726th air defence training centre of military air defence.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak, First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleh Hladkovsky and Head of the Ukroboronprom State Concern Pavlo Bukin have signed an agreement with Turkey for the purchase of Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicles, according to the website ukrinform.net.

Following a successful tendering process, Mercedes-Benz Cars Netherlands B.V. (MBCNL) will supply around 515 vehicles to the Dutch army airborne troops between 2021 and 2023. Known as the "12kN AASLT" air assault vehicle, the vehicles (1,200 kg payload air assault vehicles) can be transported with precision to their place of deployment by CH-47 Chinook helicopters as either internal or external cargo.

The Russia military will receive new Platforma-O heavy tractors to replace those produced by the Minsk Wheel Tractors Plant (MZKT Volat), according to a military source. The newest Platforma-O family of heavy wheeled transporters designed by JSC Kamaz and produced by the JSC Remdizel Plant was unveiled at Army 2018 defense exhibition near Moscow in August 2018.

Belgium will withdraw a significant portion of its military support for Iraq to reinvest invest more in Afghanistan, the newly appointed Defense Minister Sander Loones reported on the 2019 plan for military operations. The new minister continues the line of the past four years, marked by the fight against terrorism.

Peruvian Minister of Defense José Huerta Torres and Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell Fontelles have signed a Memorandum of Understanding covering cooperation in armament and defense material. The agreement was signed on November 12, 2018 at Peru's Government Palace in Lima. The signing took place in the presence of Peruvian President Martín Vizcarra Cornejo, and the kings of Spain, Felipe VI and Letizia Ortiz, who are on an official visit to Peru.

Together with its Malaysian partner, Global Komited, a member of the Weststar Group, Thales announces that the ForceSHIELD Ground-Based Air Defence system project has reached its final milestone with Full System Acceptance (FSA) occurring on October 2018. This achievement represents the culmination of a successful tri-party team working together, including programme management, operational and technical staff from the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), Global Komited and Thales, since September 2015 when the ForceSHIELD contract was signed at the DSEI exhibition in London.

On the sidelines of IndoDefence 2018, Deputy Defense Minister Qassem Taqizadeh and Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu expressed their intention to expand bilateral ties and cooperation in defense industries.

The Russian nuclear, chemical and biological (NCB) protection troops are receiving a growing number of new hardware in the framework of the defense procurement order, the Zvezda broadcaster said.

Rheinmetall has formally handed over a heavily protected Survivor R special operations vehicle to the Berlin Police Department. Dr. Barbara Slowik, Chief of the Berlin Police Department, symbolically handed over the keys to the Operations Directorate, represented by Criminal Investigation Division Director Martin John. This versatile vehicle, ordered as part of a package of counterterrorism measures in late September 2017, is specially configured to meet the needs of the Operations Directorate of the Berlin Police. Berlin follows Saxony as the third German state to equip its police special operators with the Survivor R.

Rescue team of Ukraine’s SSES Field Office in Donetsk region received new vehicles based on the 6х6 KrAZ-63221 chassis as part of Fleet Upgrade and Renovation Program. According to the website of State Service for Emergency Situations, three special vehicles entered in service with rescuers of Donetsk region.

Israel’s new Eitan armored personnel carrier is in final field testing with the Nahal infantry brigade. Its series production is scheduled to start in 2021. Once the Israeli army has received enough Eitans to replace the last of their old M113s, the vehicle will be made available for export.

Paramount Group, a South Africa-based global defence and aerospace company, operates in countries in the Middle East, South America and Africa. Its joint venture Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering (KPE) produces advanced armoured wheeled vehicles, such as the Arlan 4x4, Nomad 4x4, Barys 6x6 and Barys 8x8, in the country.

"Kim Jong-un has overseen the testing of a new “high-technology” tactical weapon at the National Academy of Defense Sciences," the official KCNA news agency reported on November 16th. She added that the test had been successful but did not specify the nature of the weapon tested (could it be a "railgun"?). This weapon, which has been developed over a long period, "helps to build an invulnerable defense for our country and strengthens the fighting power of our people's army," the agency said.

The UK is cementing its deep and special relationship with Oman for generations to come with the opening of a new Omani-British Joint Training Base. As part of his visit to Oman for the culmination of Exercise Saif Sareea 3, the UK’s largest exercise in 17 years, Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson underlined the UK’s enduring commitment to Oman and highlighted the importance of protecting peace and stability in the Gulf.

Qatari and U.S. Army Central forces launched into Exercise Eastern Action 19 on Nov. 4, 2018. Soldiers from the U.S. 2nd Battalion, 198th Armor Regiment, 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team, Task Force Spartan, and Qatari Emiri Land Forces, combined for the ceremony and will join forces the Command Post and Field Training Exercises.

IndoDefence 2018 gave the Indonesian company PT Pindad and the Turkish company FNSS a golden opportunity to demonstrate and, hence, efficiently advertise their Harimau/Kaplan medium tank. Harimau (Javanese tiger) is the Indonesian name, while Kaplan MT Modern Medium Weight Tank (MMWT) is the Turkish one. As told to Army Recognition by an FNSS representative, Bangladesh, the Philippines and Brunei have expressed interest in purchasing the tank, the two latter countries for 40 to 50 each.

MyDefence Communication announces the successful integration of Counter Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) technology in vehicle platforms for military forces. The integration of the drone sensors allows military operators to effectively detect and defeat enemy drones used for reconnaissance or as weapon delivery systems.

Spanish Company Star Defence Logistics & Engineering (SDLE) has won a multi-million Euros contract for the reactivation, maintenance and modernization of 80 first-generation Centauro Cavalry Reconnaissance Vehicles (CRV) of the Royal Jordanian Army. In February 2014, it was announced that Jordan to buy about 80 Italian Iveco 105 mm Centauro tank destroyers by June 2014. The Centauro 105mm is a wheeled tank destroyer designed for light to medium territorial defense and tactical reconnaissance.

The U.S. Army is about to buy an advanced camouflage defense system able to protect troops, vehicles and various equipment from a variety of threats in multiple combat environments. Three companies bid for the contract, which was ultimately awarded to Fibrotex USA – a leader in camouflage, concealment and deception systems for armed forces.
