CSIR Council for Scientific and Industrial Research gears up for Africa Aerospace and Defence 2012
The Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) Expo takes place biennially and is viewed as one of the premier aerospace and defence events in the world, bringing together players in the military and civilian sectors from around the globe. This year's event will take place from 19 to 23 September, returning to its original venue at Air Force Base Waterkloof, Centurion after six years. Indications are that this year's event will be the largest since the establishment of AAD in 2000.

The CSIR will be showcasing its work across a number of research and technology domains, including unmanned aerial systems, laser and materials technology as well as specialised tools and technologies developed specifically for the defence industries. Safety and security is one of the CSIR's flagship areas and impact in this domain will be a prominent component of the CSIR's AAD presence.

AAD is a collaboration between the South African Aerospace, Maritime and Defence Industry Association, ARMSCOR and the Commercial Aviation Association of SA. It is supported by the Department of Defence, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Transport and the Department of Science and Technology. Trade days are held from 19 to 21 September and the public is welcomed from 22 to 23 September. One component of AAD is a formal Youth Development Programme which has specific side events coinciding with the bigger expo.
