U.S. and United Arab Emirates joint live-fire exercise with M142 HIMARS rocket launcher systems
 
Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 14th Field Artillery, held a 10-day exercise, Sept. 22 through Oct. 1, with the host nation's 97th Heavy Artillery Regiment, in the United Arab Emirates. The live-fire exercise tested joint capabilities for the first time between the two units that operate the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, known as HIMARS.
Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 14th Field Artillery, held a 10-day exercise, Sept. 22 through Oct. 1, with the host nation's 97th Heavy Artillery Regiment, in the United Arab Emirates. Infantry soldiers of Israeli army ready to work closely with artillery and tanks for Urban Warfare
 
The nature of warfare is changing. According to Gefen Battalion commander Lt. Col. Shai Kefler, infantry will have to be able to work more closely with artillery and tanks in the future, in complex urban combat situations. To prepare for this change, cadets from the Gefen Battalion, future infantry officers, were tested in a tough urban warfare training exercise last week. The exercise took place at the IDF Urban Warfare Training Center.

The field artillery in the Afghan National Army (ANA) recently made a great stride in their enduring ability to train and certify soldiers to fire artillery, a much needed benchmark for independent operations. ANA Sgt. 1st Class Zahir Khan, from Forward Operating Base Orgun-E, ANA Artillery Battery, 4th Kandak, 2nd Brigade, 203rd Corps, is the first ANA field artillery master gunner for D-30 howitzers in Paktika province.

The brigade will include the Shahar, Kedem, Tavor and Ram battalions and will be capable of contending with various home front emergencies, including chemical, biological and nuclear attacks.

Systems capable of greater ranges are understood to be under research and development.

Foxhound, the Army's state-of-the-art light protected patrol vehicle, arrived in Helmand province last month. At Camp Bastion, soldiers from a variety of cap badges are engaged in training programmes to get to grips with the beast.
