In order to help improve the security of Morocco, 20 members of the 15th Royal Artillery Group of Moroccan army were trained to operate 60 M109A5 howitzers recently purchased through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program.

Thailand must continue to modernise its armed forces to be prepared for new multi-faceted threats, said the Permanent Secretary for Defence Gen Sathian Permtongin. As such, Gen Sathian said, despite the trend of declining traditional threats, every country must remain prudent and continue to modernise their armed forces to be ready for new forms of threats that are seemingly increasing.

More than 280 British army troops joined forces with 690 soldiers from the Afghan National Army (ANA) and patrolmen from the Afghan National Police to clear insurgents from the area north of the bustling town of Gereshk in Nahr-e Saraj district. Making this commercial hub secure is a priority for Afghan forces in the coming year and has become the main focus for current operations.

More than 300 British soldiers from 1st Battalion The Royal Welsh have recently been put through some final battlefield training scenarios in preparation for their upcoming deployment to Afghanistan. Exercise Pashtun Tempest took place on Castlemartin Range in Pembrokeshire, West Wales - a training area used to stage combined arms live firing exercises.

French armed forces equipment and combat vehicles in the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon
 

In December 2011, Army Recognition magazine reporter team was in Lebanon to cover the SMES 2011 defence Exhibition in Beyrouth. During our trip, we also visited the French Army troops which are deployed as members of the UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon). Army Recognition analyses the military equipment, combat systems and armoured vehicles use by the French Army troops and their role in Lebanon.
