The Bumerang is new 8x8 armoured vehicle designed and manufactured by the Russian Defense Company Military Industrial Company (VPK). The vehicle was unveiled for the first time during the rehearsal of military parade for the Victory Day in April 2015.

The Bumerang is a new development of 8x8 armoured vehicle personnel carrier launched by the Russian defense industry to replace the old BTR family used by the Russian armed forces.

Currently, there is two variants of the Bumerang tested by the Russian armed forces, the K-16 which is the APC version fitted with a remotely operated weapon station armed with a 12.7mm heavy machine and the K-17 which was demonstrated during a live firing demonstration at Army-2017.

The K-17 is the IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) version in the Bumerang family which is also equipped with a remotely operated weapon station armed with a 2A42 dual-feed 30mm cannon and one 7.62 mm PKTM coaxial machine gun. Two KBP Instrument Design Bureau Kornet-EM ant-tank laser-guided missile launchers are mounted on each side of the turret.

The Bumerang hull provides protection against firing of small arms and shell splinters. In addition to this, Bumerang is also equipped with bolt-on ceramic armor which offers all-around protection against 14.5 mm, armor-piercing ammunition, and artillery fragments from 152 mm rounds.

The Bumerang is fully amphibious, being propelled in the water by two propellers which were situated on either side of the hull at the rear. As all the modern combat vehicles, the standard equipment of the Boomerang could include air-conditioning, NBC protection system, night vision equipment, computerized fire control, and central tyre pressure regulation system. The Bumerang is also fitted with video cameras to provide the troops a full 360° view all-around from inside the vehicle.
