The two vehicles Fahd of the Egyptian army then headed toward Israel. The vehicle exploded at the Israel-Egypt border. The APC entered Israeli territory with four terrorists inside. It was then targeted by the Israel Air Force.

Israeli military spokeswoman Avital Leibovich said gunmen had seized two armoured vehicles. One exploded and the second was destroyed by Israeli aircraft.

Israeli government spokesman Ofir Gendelman said seven militants were killed, four on the Israeli side of the border and three in Egypt.

The IDF Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, held a situation assessment in response to the incident. He then ordered IDF forces to continue searching the area and locate any terrorists who may have infiltrated without being detected.

According to Egypt's state news agency, the attack was the responsibility of militants from Gaza who entered Egypt through the tunnels beneath the border.
