Lithuania MoD to acquire new batch of German G-36 assault rifles and HK269 grenade launchers.
The Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence has signed an agreement on procurement of another batch of automatic rifles G-36 and under-barrel 40 mm HK269 grenade launchers procurement with German company Heckler & Koch GmbH.

The automatic rifles G-36 and under-barrel 40 mm HK269 grenade launchers Lithuania will acquire for the sum amounting to 12.5 million euros. All weapons are scheduled to be delivered to the Lithuanian Armed Forces in the course of 2017.

"By acquiring an additional batch of the G-36, the rifle well-known and having good recommendations among Lithuanian soldiers, we will want ro retain one type of weapon in the Lithuanian Armed Forces," the Lithuanian Minister of National Defence says.

The new weapons will be improved based on observations and recommendations made by the Lithuanian soldiers on the G-36 currently used in the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The buttstocks, handguards and sight rails on rifles will be modified and the updated weapon will be called as the G-36 KA4M1.

The new 40 mm under-barrel grenade launchers HK269 will differ from the currently in use by the possibility to be charged by opening a barrel to both side ( the currently in use may opened to one side only) .
