Northrop Grumman unveils Humvee modernization solution at AUSA 2014 1410141

“The HMMWV has had an enduring role in the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps and across the international ground forces community for decades,” said Frank Simpkins, director, land forces programs, Northrop Grumman Technical Services. “By leveraging our customer mission and platform knowledge and assembling a best-in-class industry team, we believe Northrop Grumman has a tremendous offering that would appeal to every member of the global HMMWV community.”

Northrop Grumman partnered with Meritor Defense and Pratt & Miller Engineering on the solution, which extends the life of the HMMWV while significantly lowering sustainment costs and increasing fuel efficiency.

The concept is to use the existing cab of the standard Humvee fitted on a new chassis with new power train, transmission, transfer case. The project is led by Northrop Grumman in collaboration with companies Meritor and Pratt & Miller.

Northrop Grumman is able to deliver the kit in any part of the world, where the Humvees are deployed to perform the installation.

Currently, the program JLTV builds to replace the fleet of Humvee of U.S. army and Marine Corps is scheduled to come on line by 2019-2021, but the Humvees will continue to remain in service and need to be upgraded.
