The Azerbaijani Armed Force was re-established according to the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Armed Forces from 9 October 1991. The armed forces have three branches: the Azerbaijani Land Forces, the Azerbaijani Air and Air Defence Force, a single unified branch, and the Azerbaijani Navy. Associated forces include the Azerbaijani National Guard, the Internal Troops of Azerbaijan, and the State Border Service, which can be involved in state defense when needed. The total active manpower is around 46,700 personnel, including 26,900 conscripts. The conscription is 24 months.
The Land Forces of Azerbaijani Army are composed by 43,800 soldiers with the structure:
- 5 Army Corps HQs, 13 independent motorised rifle regiments, 3 independent rifle regiments,13 battalions, 1 artillery brigade, 1 MRLS brigade, 1 AT regiment.
