The BARAK-8 is designed to destroy any types of aerial threats as aircraft, helicopters, anti-ship missiles, and UAVs as well as cruise missiles and combat jets from a range of 70 to 150 km.

The system includes an advanced Phased Array digital radar, command and control, vertical launchers and missiles carrying a highly advanced seeker.

The Barak 8 also includes a battle management, command, control, communication and intelligence center (BMC4I); vertical launch system with Barak 8 interceptor missiles; and a multi-function surveillance, track & guidance radar (MF-STAR).

According IAI sources, the Barak-8 is considered as the equal to the American Patriot air defense system.
