First Iveco Lynx 2 LMVs for Italian army


Iveco Defence has delivered a first batch of 34 latest-generation Light Multirole Vehicles (LMV) Lince 2 (Lynx 2) to the Italian army. These LMVs are in Networked Enabled Capability (NEC) configuration. The army’s initial contract covers 400 vehicles.

The Light Multirole Vehicle 2, or Lynx 2, is a modernized version of the LMV designed and manufactured by the The Italian Company IVECO Defence Vehicles based on lessons learned in the field, to meet specific operational requirements of its users. The LMV 2 was unveiled at Eurosatory defense exhibition in June 2016.

The vehicle has a gross vehicle weight of 8,100 kg. The payload has been increased to reach 1,500 kg (800 kg for the LMV 1). A new suspension system provides higher comfort. The standard equipment now includes automatic drive train management (ADM), electronic stability programme (ESP) and a tire central inflation system. The engine is an Iveco F1C turbocharged diesel developing 220hp, coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission with hydraulic torque converter and a two-ratio permanent transfer case. The “standard” maximum road speed is electronically limited to 90 km/h but a “battle switch” can increase it to 110 km/h.

The protection against projectiles, mines and IEDs has been improved. Two more and more common features contribute to this protection: a V-shape hull and a suspended seat for each of the crew members to attenuate an IED or mine blast. The roof is higher to favor comfort and storage volume. For self-defence, the LMV Lince 2 NEC is fitted with a roof-mounted Leonardo Defence Systems HITROLE remote weapon station (RWS) that can be armed with a 7.62 mm or 12.7 mm machine gun or a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher. There is also a bank of eight electrically operated smoke grenade launchers mounted above the bullet/splinter proof front windscreen.
