Deployed in Mali by the French armed forces during combat operations as part of operation SERVAL and BARKHANE, as well as in Lebanon, Afghanistan and, more recently, in Iraq, the CAESAR® 6x6 wheeled self-propelled 155mm artillery system has a worldwide reputation as representing the best compromise between the simplicity of a towed artillery piece and the mobility of a self-propelled system. The CAESAR® is extremely accurate and highly mobile to avoid counter-battery fire, whilst remaining the artillery system with the lowest maintenance cost in its category.

Recently, Nexter Systems has aslo developed a 8x8 version of the CAESAR which is now equipped with a fully automatic ammunition loading system.

The CAESAR 8x8 uses an wheeled military Tatra trucks chassis motorized with an air-cooled 410HP Diesel engine. The vehicle can run at a maximum road speed of 90km/h and 50km/h in off-road condition with a maximum cruising range of more than 600 km.

The main armament of the Nexter CAESAR 8x8 consists of one 155mm/52 caliber gun which is similar to the cannon mounted on the 6x6 Caesar. The Caesar 8x8 as a maximum rate of fire of 6 rounds/min. It can carry a total of 30 155mm projectiles and charges, the 155mm cannon has a powered elevation of maximum +72° and traverse 30° left/right and a large hydraulically operated spade is lowered at the rear to provide a more stable firing platform.

Nexter Systems has also the 105 LG1 in its portfolio of artillery weapons which is a 105mm towed artillery howitzer. The 105 LG Mk III version features an inertial navigation unit used to guide, position and aim the canon. This system further reduces the time for getting into firing configuration. The 105 LG Mk III can be integrated into a firing control system (system C3l).

The Nexter Systems LG1 can fire all ammunition compliant with the NATO standard, especially US M1 ammunition over a standard range of more than 11 km, and Nexter Munitions "Extended Range" ammunition over a range of more than 17 km.
