Techimpex from Ukraine showcases new generation of 8x8 armoured vehicle called Varan at Defense and Security Thailand 2017 exhibition in Bangkok. A scale model of the Varan is displayed on the booth of the Ukrainian defense industry fitted with an unmanned weapon station RCWS-30.

The VARAN is a wheeled armored personnel carrier being developed for the Ukrainian Army. It has a crew of 3 and can carry 7 fully equipped soldiers. The design of the Varan is standard for a modern wheeled armoured personnel carrier with the driver at the front left side of the hull and engine on its right, the turret is in the middle and the troops compartment at the rear.

On each side of the hull, there is three small bulletproof windows with firing port in the lower part. There is one single door on each side of the hull and one more at the rear of the hull.

The Varan is fitted with an RCWS-30 remote control turret especially designed for tracked or wheeled combat vehicles. The RCWS-30 is armed with 2A42 or ZTM-2 30mm automatic cannon, one 7.62mm PKT coaxial machine gun and four anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) Konkurs or Barrier.

The hull of the Varan provides protection against firing of small arms 12.7mm at the front and 7.62mm on sides. The vehicle is motorized with a Deutz TCD 2013 Diesel engine developing 320 hp. coupled to a manual or automatic Allison transmission. It can run at a maximum speed of 110 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 750 km.

The Varan is fully amphibious and propelled in the water at a maximum speed of 10km/h thanks to two propellers mounted at the rear of the hull.
