The Norwegian military procurement authority NDMA has commissioned Krauss-Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co. KG (KMW) with delivering 54 of its latest Leopard 2A7 main battle tanks designated Leopard 2A7NO. The vehicles are scheduled for delivery from 2026 to 2028. The necessary set of agreements for this was signed in Munich on February 17. It includes the option for an additional 18 Leopard 2A7NO tanks.

The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency on February 16 announced that the State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of the Netherlands of M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers and related equipment for an estimated cost of $670 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale.

MBDA Germany communicates about the support it is bringing to the German army’s Patriot air defense modernization imposed by the more complex threats, including identification of friend or foe. This leads to improved reliability and extended functions of the air defense systems. Extensive tests with the new Patriot configuration have now been carried out at the MBDA test site in Freinhausen. The Bundeswehr should then operate the more modern Patriot available this year.

According to information published on the Polish News website "TVP World" on February 15, 2023, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced during a press conference, that the Polish army ordered 48 additional Krab 155mm tracked self-propelled howitzers. Due to this new order and the contract signed with Ukraine, the Polish Defense industry will increase production of the local-made KRAB, a 155mm self-propelled howitzer based on tracked armored produced by the Polish company HSW (Huta Stalowa Wola) in cooperation with BAE Systems and OBRUM.

The Japanese Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced it is to start procuring two new types of small arms for the infantry units of the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force (JGSDF) in FY2023, Shinichi Kiyotani reports on European Security and Defence website. For the first time in its history, the Australian Army (ADF) will have the ability to accurately hit surface targets hundreds of kilometres away with guided missiles, the Australian MoD reports. The M142 high mobility artillery rocket system (HIMARS) will be acquired as the first land-based, surface-to-surface missile system, which will be a component of Defence’s future long-range strike capability. The Lockheed Martin system has a range of 300km, with plans to make munitions capable of even longer distances.
