Polish army conducts first live firing exercises with K9 155mm self-propelled howitzers

According to a statement published by the Polish Ministry of Defense, Polish army soldiers of the 1st Mazurian Artillery Brigade conducted for the first time live firing exercises with the new K9 155mm tracked self-propelled howitzer.

During a field exercise at a firing range in the vicinity of Toruń, the Polish soldiers carried out for the first time live firing exercises with K9 155mm self-propelled howitzers. In addition to the battery consisting of K9 howitzers, the training also included Polish-made KRAB 155mm howitzers, WR-40 Langusta and RM-70 rocket launchers, and the M120 Rak self-propelled mortar vehicles.

On August 26, 2022, Poland signed contracts with the South Korean industry to acquire K2 Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) and K9 155mm self-propelled howitzers based on tracked chassis. Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Mariusz Błaszczak approved the contracts for 180 K2 tanks and 212 K9 SPHs.

The K9 Thunder is a South Korean self-propelled howitzer that entered service in 1999. It is manufactured by Hanwha Defense and is widely regarded as one of the most advanced and capable self-propelled artillery systems in the world.

The K9 Thunder is designed to provide accurate and rapid-fire support to ground troops.
