Airbus Defence and Space together with Northrop Grumman and seven industrial players forming the ASPAARO (Atlantic Strategic Partnership for Advanced All-domain Resilient Operations) team have been selected by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) to conduct one of three Risk Reduction and Feasibility Studies (RRFS). Thales has signed a contract with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann for the delivery of 4 PAAG to the German Armed Forces to equip its Boxer armoured vehicles. The Stabilized Panoramic Above Armour Gimbal (PAAG), built in Thales premises in Glasgow, UK, is an electronic surveillance system that is remotely controlled from inside the Boxer and gives users a stabilized long-range ‘Detection, Recognition, Identification’ (DRI) and weapon aiming ability on the move during daylight and night conditions.

The Government of the Slovak Republic announced that Patria is the winner of the tender for BOV 8x8 programme. Patria will supply Slovakia with armored wheeled vehicles. This decision is based on bids submitted at the end of 2021, as well as vehicle and weapon system tests carried out in February 2022. Patria's offer is the best match to the requirements.

Sensor solutions specialist Hensoldt has achieved a major technology development milestone that enhances substantially the detection capabilities of Ground-based Air Defence (GBAD) systems. The company implemented and tested successfully a software enhancement with its proven MSSR 2000 ID secondary radar that allows for precise tracking of aircraft in addition to the conventional surveillance mode of Identification-friend-or-foe (IFF) systems. A so-called “stop & stare mode” allows GBAD systems to process identification tracks in specific sectors in near-real time and very precisely.

The Hungarian Ministry of Defence has contracted with Rheinmetall to supply an extensive package of ammunition worth several hundred million euros. The order encompasses ammunition for infantry fighting vehicles, main battle tanks, artillery, and decoy systems. Delivery is starting in 2023 and is to be complete by 2031. Most of the ammunition will be manufactured in Hungary.

According to Branislav Urosevic in See News, Serbia's Defense ministry purchased six Nora B-52 self-propelled howitzers from state-owned Defense products maker Jugoimport-SDPR's subsidiary Borbeni Slozeni Sistemi (BSS). The European Defence Agency (EDA) is working on the establishment of a European Terrain Database (ETDB) which will include a vast selection of images taken from across Europe to be made available to Member States’ Armed Forces for multiple military purposes. The U.S. Department of Defense on March 25 announced that BAE Systems Land & Armaments L.P., is awarded a $173,592,903 firm-fixed-price modification to the previously awarded contract M67854-16-0006 for Amphibious Combat Vehicles (ACV). The total cumulative face value of the contract is $1,733,760,197. This contract modification provides for the exercise of options for the procurement of 36 full-rate production ACVs and associated products, and fielding and support costs.

The German Bundeswehr has contracted with the new Rheinmetall subsidiary Zeppelin Mobile Systeme GmbH (ZMS) to supply and integrate state-of-the-art medical technology for the field hospital at Camp Castor, the Bundeswehr’s forward operating base in Gao, Mali. In all, the order is worth a figure in the lower two-digit million-euro range. The material will be furnished in the second half of the year, with integration slated to take place at the end of 2022 on location in Mali.

British Challenger 3 is a step closer to entering the battlefield following the steel cut on its more powerful and advanced turret. The Challenger 3 tanks are being upgraded by Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) under an £800 million contract, which will deliver 148 Challenger 3 tanks and equip the British Army with this modern capability until 2040. Initial Operating Capability for the Challenger 3 tank is expected in 2027.

The U.S.Defense Cooperation Security Agency announced on March 24 that the State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Bahrain of M270 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) upgrade and related equipment for an estimated cost of $175.98 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on March 24. The principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin.

Adithya reports in Overt Defense that India’s Ministry of Defence has identified and approved a total of 23 projects, including hypersonic glide vehicles (HGV), directed energy weapons (DEW) and light tank, for industry-led design and development in March 2022. This is in sync with the announcement in the 2022-23 budget that allocated 25% of defence research and development (R&D) budget for industry-led R&D.
