On January 14, 2023, the French Ministry of Defense, Sébastien Lecornu announced the delivery to Ukraine of AMX-10RC anti-tank armored vehicles, without specifying the model and the number of vehicles. According to our source, France will supply to Ukraine 30 AMX-10RCR.

The AMX-10RCR is a French reconnaissance and anti-tank wheeled armored vehicle. While they share similarities in their overall design and purpose, the AMX-10RCR is an upgraded version of the AMX-10RC with enhancements in protection, firepower, and mobility. Primarily designed for reconnaissance missions, the AMX-10RCR is also capable of engaging enemy armored vehicles with its anti-tank capabilities.

The AMX-10RCR crew typically consists of four members including the commander, driver, gunner, and loader. The driver is seated at the front of the vehicle on the left side. The turret is in the center of the vehicle with the commander and gunner seated on the right and the loader on the left.

The AMX-10RCR features enhanced armor protection compared to the original AMX-10RC. While the base armor on the AMX-10RCR consists of steel, which provides protection against the firing of small arms fire and artillery shell fragments, the AMX-10RCR is equipped with additional modular armor packages. These armor packages can be tailored to specific mission requirements, offering better protection against a wider range of threats, including more advanced anti-tank weapons.

The modular armor also provides an advantage in terms of adaptability, allowing the vehicle's protection to be adjusted based on the expected level of enemy engagement. This flexibility helps to ensure that the AMX-10RCR remains an effective and survivable asset on the battlefield.

The AMX-10RCR retains the same 105mm F2 rifled gun as the AMX-10RC but includes upgrades to the fire control system and other targeting improvements. The 105mm F2 gun can fire various types of ammunition, such as high-explosive (HE), high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT), and armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS) rounds. This allows the gun to engage a wide array of targets, from infantry and lightly armored vehicles to more heavily armored tanks.

The effective range of the 105mm F2 gun depends on the type of ammunition used. For example, armor-piercing rounds can be effective at ranges of up to 2,000 meters or more, while high-explosive rounds may have a shorter effective range. The gun's maximum range is typically around 3,000 meters.

The AMX-10RCR features an upgraded engine and suspension system compared to the original AMX-10RC, which improves its mobility and off-road performance. The vehicle is also equipped with an upgraded suspension system, which is designed to offer better off-road performance and increased mobility across various terrains. The vehicle uses a 6x6 wheeled configuration, and the improved suspension system provides a smoother ride, better shock absorption, and enhanced stability during operations.
