A plant to produce Kalashnikov AK-103 assault rifles is planned to start working in Venezuela by the end of 2022, CEO of Russia’s Rosoboronexport state arms seller Alexander Mikheyev told TASS in the run-up to the SITDEF 2021 international defense technology show in Peru: “There are plans to complete the construction and commission the plant by the end of 2022 if nothing beyond our control happens”.

According to Mikheyev, Rosoboronexport and Russian contractors have carried out active work in 2021 to build and equip the plant, which was repeatedly noted by the Venezuelan side. “Thanks to the timely planning and purchases of engineering equipment, the global price rise has not impacted the work,” he said.
As the Rosoboronexport CEO said, the plant for the production of AK-103 assault rifles in Venezuela can be modernized after commissioning: “The issue of the plant modernization may be considered in case the Venezuelan side requests it after the beginning of the plant’s work,” he added.
The SITDEF 2021 international defense technology show will run through October 31 on the premises of the Peruvian Army’s headquarters in Lima. The defense show has been held every two years since 2007.
