Elbit Systems of America to supply ENVG-B night vision systems for US Army


Elbit Systems & TASE (ESLT) announced on October 12 that its U.S. subsidiary, Elbit Systems of America was awarded an order valued at approximately $107 million for the supply of Enhanced Night Vision Goggle – Binocular (ENVG-B) systems, spare parts, logistics support, and test equipment, for the U.S. Army. The order will be executed in Roanoke, Virginia and will be supplied during the years 2023 and 2024.

This order is part of the Other Transaction Authority (OTA) contract that Elbit Systems of America received in 2020, with a potential value that could reach a maximum of $442 million. Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis, Elbit Systems President & CEO, said: “This order attests to the quality of Elbit Systems of America’s technologies and their unique operational contribution, demonstrating the significant potential of our night vision activity.”

The ENVG-B integrates powerful night vision capabilities and head-up situational awareness that allow soldiers to navigate and perform at their best in the modern, complex battlefield. ENVG-Bs are equipped with high-performance white phosphor image intensifier tubes for better scene contrast providing soldiers better situational awareness in the dark, but also when there is fog, dust, or smoke. The ENVG-B system includes a wireless connection to soldiers’ rifle-mounted thermal weapon site and augmented reality overlay, enabling rapid target acquisition and improved situational awareness in various battlefield conditions.

The Enhanced Night Vision Goggle – Binocular (ENVG-B) provides dismounted Brigade Combat Team Warfighters the capability to observe and maneuver in all weather conditions, through obscurants, during limited visibility, and under all lighting conditions while enabling the rapid detection and target engagement with rifle-mounted aiming lasers. ENVG-B uses image intensification, infrared (thermal) sensors, wireless connectivity through Intra Soldier Wireless, and augmented reality enhancements. The introduction of the high figure of merit white phosphorus tubes allows the user to see images in a white field instead of the current green background.

ENVG-B allows the individual soldier to see, understand, and act first during all limited visibility conditions. The goggles combine the visual detail in low-light conditions that is provided by image intensification coupled with the thermal sensor’s ability to see through fog, dust, and smoke. This thermal capability makes ENVG-B useful during the day as well as at night, unlike earlier night vision devices. Higher-resolution stereoscopic displays allow for faster target acquisition by improving the separation of targets from the background. Additionally, ENVG-B will receive wirelessly transmitted weapon sight crosshair and thermal imagery from the Family of Weapon Sights-Individual; thus, providing a Rapid Target Acquisition capability that enables Soldiers to detect, recognize, and engage targets accurately from any carry position and with significantly reduced exposure to enemy fire. The ENVG-B is also interoperable with Nett Warrior through wireless transmission of Augmented Reality to improve the Soldier’s situational awareness.
