DSEI 2019: German Company FFG shows new recovery module for Boxer 8x8 armored vehicle

At DSEI 2019, the International Defense and Security Exhibition in London, UK, the German Company FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft presents a solution to offer a recovery module that could be integrated on the Boxer 8x8 armored vehicles.

The Boxer is an 8x8 armored vehicle which is produced under a bi-national program. Highly mobile, it is a state-of-the-art wheeled vehicle whose modular design permits a wide variety of mission-specific configurations. Consisting of a uniform drive module, the Boxer vehicle family's user-specific mission modules can be quickly exchanged. A number of mission variants are currently under development, including a troop carrier for transporting an infantry section, a field ambulance, a combat engineering section vehicle, C4I and C2 command vehicles, a logistics vehicle and a battlefield maintenance vehicle.

The British Army intends to acquire a new initial fleet of more than 500 eight-wheeled multi-role armored Boxer vehicles.

In September 2018, the British Ministry of Defense (MoD) has given a green light to ARTEC to invite British companies with their new contractible proposals for the Boxer vehicles project.

Whereas various mission modules already exist to configure Boxer as ambulance, battle damage repair, cargo, command post, engineer group, infantry fighting or troop carrier vehicle, a potent recovery module was missing. FFG is now fundamentally changing the situation with a sophisticated system module which at 13 t deadweight is able to lift up to 20 t or to pull it by means of a capstan winch.

The new module can also be decoupled hydraulically from the vehicle and work partially autonomously thanks to its own battery supply. Operation is carried out by a crew of two, who monitor the work supported by special software via touch screens.

Concerning general on-board equipment such as ABC-system, heating, etc FFG used its previously introduced boxer components to achieve the greatest possible logistical equality.
