The PVP is a modern 4X4 vehicle, developed to equip the command cells of artillery and engineer units, as well as certain specific paratrooper, mountain, transportation and observation units. A 5.3 tonne combat-loaded light vehicle equipped with a high-quality ballistic protection, and a high tactical and strategic mobility (airlift by C-130 and C-160 and sling transport by helicopter), it can transport up to 4 soldiers. It is also fitted with a 7.62 mm turret machine-gun, which can be replaced by a remotely controlled weapon system. The PVP have been deployed by French forces in Georgia, Lebanon and Afghanistan.

The PVP are produced in the industrial sites of Marolles-en-Hurepoix near Paris and Saint-Germain-Laval in the centre of France. The PVP programme represents roughly one million of working hours for Panhard General Defense and its suppliers.
