The realization of FELIN programme is due to a network of French and European high tech companies. Led by Sagem (Safran group), almost 25 first companies participate to the FELIN programme. Among them the French companies Nexter, Thales, Renault Trucks Defense, ELNO, MSA Gallet. FELIN systems are assembled in the Sagem industrial sites of Poitiers in the centre of France and Fougères in Brittany.

Every year, up to 2015, four new regiments will be equipped with FELIN. FELIN improves strikingly the functions of protection, observation, communication, fire power, mobility and support of the fighters for the direct contact with opponents. Equipments include vest of protection, battle dress, NBC dress, day/night vision goggles, communications and information systems, individual or collective weapons.

FELIN brings a qualitative jump in terms of operational efficiency and protection of the fighters confirmed by the first deployment on operational theatres. The aiming system of the weapons, completely reanalyzed, facilitates the neutralization of the opponents in the daytime and at night:
the firing range of the FAMAS rifle is improved by 70 % day (500 m instead of 300) and of 160 % night (400 m instead of 150)! FELIN also improves largely the manoeuvre and the night fighting through increased observation and geo-localization capacities. Finally, the information system of FELIN facilitates the integration of the fighting groups in the digitized chain of command which allows henceforth the connection of all the levels, from the general officer commanding the operation to the soldier on the field. It brings the soldier a real capacity of fight in network.
